Ukraine officially severs diplomatic ties with Russia

Firefighters work on a fire on a building after bombings on the eastern Ukraine town of Chuguiv on February 24, 2022, as Russian armed forces are trying to invade Ukraine from several directions, using rocket systems and helicopters to attack Ukrainian position in the south, the border guard service said. - Russia's ground forces on Thursday crossed into Ukraine from several directions, Ukraine's border guard service said, hours after President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a major offensive. Russian tanks and other heavy equipment crossed the frontier in several northern regions, as well as from the Kremlin-annexed peninsula of Crimea in the south, the agency said. President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine has officially severed diplomatic ties with Russia following its invasion of Ukrainian territory.

The president also said that he will issue weapons to everyone who wants them.

He called on all citizens who are ready to defend the country from Russian forces to come forward, saying Kyiv would issue weapons to everyone who wants them.

The Ukrainian president also urged Russians to come out and protest against Moscow’s decision to invade its neighbour.

Ukrainian state air traffic services has closed the country’s airspace as the country comes under attack. It suspended all flights at 02:45 Kyiv time “due to the high risk of aviation safety for civil aviation”.

It added: “The provision of air traffic services to civilian users of the airspace of Ukraine is suspended.”

Ryanair says it has cancelled all flights to and from Ukraine for at least the next 14 days.
