Deputy Prime Minister of Australia Richard Marles says Quad countries, India, Japan, the United States and Australia have an opportunity to offer assistance to Sri Lanka amidst concerns of an increase Chinese influence in the country.
Speaking to an Australian media network, Defense Minister Marles said there is also an opportunity for the Quad security partnership, to offer assistance to Sri Lanka.
He said, “There is an opportunity to work with the core partners in terms of assisting Sri Lanka, but right now our focus is on how we, in a bilateral sense, can help Sri Lanka.”
Marles said there is a huge opportunity on both sides for much greater economic cooperation amidst the crisis in Sri Lanka.
Last week, The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee urged the Quad nations to take a “more proactive role” in addressing Sri Lanka’s political and economic crisis.
