Inter-provincial transport services will resume from today.
State Minister Dilum Amunugama said operations will resume in compliance with health guidelines.
State Minister Amunugama noted around 75% of buses and trains will be in operation from tomorrow.
He said inter-provincial public transport services will be in operation in the morning and evening hours to transport those reporting to duty while fewer buses and trains will function during non-office hours.
Speaking to media, State Minister Amunugama said buses and trains will resume operations on Monday to specially provide services to public servants.
State Minister Amunugama said they received permission to deploy inter-provincial buses and trains from today although the government has not lifted inter-provincial travel restrictions.
He said since the government announced that all state sector employees will be re-called to duty as per usual in order to restore normalcy in the public service, they have reached a decision to deploy additional buses and trains.
State Minister Dilum Amunugama noted since the coronavirus situation has not improved, the public should strictly adhere to health guidelines when using public transport.
He said operators who violate guidelines including restrictions imposed on the number of passengers allowed in a bus, will be prosecuted.
