An individual has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division adjacent to the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway entrance for forging documents and embezzling money.
It has been revealed that the suspect has misappropriated nearly Rs.400,000 by preparing fake documents and translating them into Italian by using stickers bearing fake seals that appear to be from the Embassy of Italy.
The suspect has also been in possession of fake stamps similar to those used by the Italian Embassy and forged documents to be stamped in order to obtain Italian visas.
The suspect is a 44-year-old resident of Katunayake.
The suspect has been remanded until the 25th of August after being produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
Police said the Colombo Crimes Division is conducting further investigations.
Police requested public applying for Italian visas to obtain it through legal means and urged the public to be more vigilant as they could be defrauded by such individuals when resorting to illegal means of obtaining visas.
