Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila says the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has two alternatives if they seek the support of the group of independent Parliamentarians for the No-Confidence Motion against the government.
The party proposes that the SJB must join the all-party interim government when the No-Confidence Motion is passed, or be willing to take over the government.
MP Gammanpila speaking during a media briefing today said when one government steps down, another must take over adding that the SJB however is not in favour of such a move.
The MP said they informed the Leader of the Opposition to inform them if the SJB agrees to the propositions. Gammanpila said they are prepared to sit in the opposition and provide constructive criticism.
Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa joining the media briefing said they would not have nominated Ranjith Siyambalapitiya to the post of Deputy Speaker of Parliament had the Samagi Jana Balawegaya informed them prior of their candidate.
MP Weerawansa said if MP Sajith Premadasa is a true Opposition Leader he should be able to at least obtain the support of the three MPs of the JVP.
The MP claimed he is unaware of who the members of the Tamil National Alliance voted for. MP Weerawansa said it is evident that the Opposition Leader has no programme to unite the opposition.
The MP said they would not have fielded a candidate had they informed that the SJB is fielding a candidate, adding that MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya is not very keen on holding the post.
He added the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna wants to indicate that MPs who declared themselves independent are still with the government while the SJB wants to highlight that the independent MPs are still in favour of the government.
MP Weerawansa said MP Sajith Premadasa is carrying out a contract of the Rajapaksa regime.
MP Weerawansa claimed MP Premadasa is keen on maintaining the Rajapaksa government, and called on the public to establish a statement “Puthano Go Home”.
