Independence Day rehearsals: Special traffic plan in Colombo

A special traffic plan will be carried out from today (28) till the 3rd of February due to the rehearsals for the 75th Independence Day parade on the 4th of February.

Accordingly, the Police has informed the public that the traffic plan will be effective from 5am till noon.

Vehicular movement will be restricted along;

  • Galle Face Middle Road, Galle Face Roundabout to NSA Roundabout and Chaithya Road
  • Colpetty Junction to the Galle Face Roundabout and the Colpetty Railway Station
  • St. Michaels’s Roundabout towards Galle Road
  • Rotunda Roundabout to Galle Road
  • Ceramic Junction to the NSA Roundabout
  • York Street to Bank of Ceylon Mawatha
  • York Street to Chatham Street
    York Street to Mudalige Mawatha
  • York Street to Baron Jayathilake Mawatha
  • Khan Clock Tower Roundabout to the YMBA Roundabout
  • Ceynor Junction to Olcott Mawatha and CTO Junction
  • CTO Junction to Lotus Road and Ceramic Junction
  • Gamini Roundabout to DR Wijewardena Mawatha
  • Slave Island Police Roundabout to Regal Junction
  • Macan Markar Mawatha to Baladaksha Mawatha and Galle Face
  • Bambalapitiya Junction along Galle Road to Colpetty
  • Marine Drive from the Bambalapitiya Railway Station
  • Thunmulla Junction to Bauddhaloka Mawatha and RA De Mel Road
  • Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha to Flower Road Junction and Liberty Roundabout
  • Liberty Roundabout to St. Michaels’ Roundabout

The Police said residents along these roads can travel to respective areas on Police advise during the rehearsals.

The Police also listed alternative roads for vehicles during this time.

Alternate roads for buses and light vehicles;

  • Vehicles travelling along Galle Road to Fort, Pettah can turn right from the Bambalapitiya Junction through Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Thunmulla Junction, and Thurston Road to reach Petttah.
  • Vehicles can also turn right from the Colpetty Junction through the Liberty Roundabout and Dharmapala Mawatha to reach Pettah.
  • Vehicles can use Olcott Mawatha, Technical College Junction, Sangaraja Mawatha, Panchikawatte Road, Maradana Bridge Junction, Gamini Roundabout to reach Fort, Pettah.
