The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection has lodged a complaint with the Consumer Affairs Authority over Prima arbitrarily increasing the price of a kilo of wheat flour by Rs.12, at a time when strict price controls of Rs.87 per kilogram has been implemented by the government.

Chairman of the Movement Ranjith Vithanage speaking to media said that such a price increase was considered illegal.

Vithanage said such a price increase would mean the increase in prices of many other food items.

Therefore, he requested the government to intervene and solve this issue.

Vithanage stressed the public is already burdened by the coronavirus pandemic, and therefore requested the government to intervene and save them from corporate misuse of power.

He also requested the newly appointed Commissioner General of essential regulations to step in and resolve the matter.

Ranjith Vithanage was hopeful of a prompt solution.
