COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Authorities have taken serious note of the increase in cases of conjunctivitis cases among children which may even lead to school closures in Colombo.
School authorities have alerted the officials of the Ministry of Education since a considerable number of schoolchildren have reported sick due to the highly contagious pink eye disease.
Although cases have been reported in several areas, the Colombo Municipality limit has been the hardest hit region due to the outbreak.
Accordingly, a special discussion is scheduled to be held today between health authorities, Public Health Inspectors and Education Ministry officials.
A spokesperson of the Ministry said the Education Minister may take a decision on whether to close schools in Colombo after the completion of today’s Grade Five Scholarship Examination.
The 2023 Grade Five Scholarship Examination will be held today at 2,888 centres across the country.
A total of 337,956 students are scheduled to sit for the examination this year.
The exam which consists of two papers will commence at 9.30am.
