The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka says there is a high risk of diseases such as dengue and diarrhoea spreading in the country, due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
Speaking to media, Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said an increase in the number of mosquitoes and flies can be expected after the flood water recedes.
Rohana said sources of drinking water have also been contaminated due to heavy showers.
He noted PHI are looking into health conditions of those in temporary shelters.
Rohana said PHIs are also making preparations to educate and provide facilities for affected individuals to chlorinate their water sources at home, and on how to clean their homes.
