Health professionals say the Epidemiology Unit and the Government Medical Laboratory Technologists use dated communication channels and therefore the accurate numbers are not disseminated to the public in a timely manner.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President of the Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists Ravi Kumudesh said lack of coordination has led to a number of issues.
He said those in the laboratory services communicate and transfer data to the Epidemiology Unit using traditional methods such as via telephone, e-mail and through books.
Ravi Kumudesh said no other country is using such methods at present.
He said no one needs to conceal data but due to the use of out-of-date communication methods, the accurate information will not be released.
While highlighting the discrepancy in reporting nearly 3,000 COVID-19 cases last week, Kumudesh said the public has no faith in the data released by the government.
Ravi Kumudesh said the government is using incorrect methods to gather and disseminate coronavirus related data and to make projections.
He added the government is not using scientific methods to make projections.
The President of the Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists said an individual who is well versed with data management must be appointed as the Deputy Director General, since the relevant data are used by the President to make national level decisions.
