The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka says strict travel restrictions must be imposed without delay, to contain the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.
Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said it is concerning whether the prevailing COVID-19 situation can be contained, even if travel restrictions are imposed.
Upul Rohana said with the prevailing situation and the daily rise in COVID-19 cases, the health sector is being pushed towards an unbearable point.
Rohana noted if the number of cases is not reduced, there is a risk of COVID-19 patients dying at home due to the lack of hospital facilities.
He said the only way to reduce patients being detected is to impose travel restrictions.
Rohana stated even if travel restrictions are imposed tomorrow, new infections will be detected for the next 14 days.
He stressed travel restrictions must be imposed without delay, in order to reduce the number of cases detected after the next two weeks.
