The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has urged the government to impose an island wide lockdown until the 20th of September, taking into consideration the dire COVID-19 situation.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Parliamentarian SM Marikkar questioned why the decision has not been reached despite continuous warnings of medical experts explaining the dangerous situation in the country.
MP Marikkar said while the government has not reached a decision yet, 5,400 citizens have succumbed to the coronavirus.
The Parliamentarian said Prof. Suneth Agampodi Founder Professor and Chair of the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences of the Rajarata University has stated that imposing a lockdown will save 1,200 lives.
MP Marikkar said society is living in fear adding the public is forced to live indoors in fear.
He said the only solution to completely reopening the country is by complete vaccination and boosting immunity.
