The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims that the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka could be overcome through intervention from the International Monetary Fund.
Speaking at an event in Colombo, Parliamentarian Eran Wickramaratne said the government should think about an all-inclusive work plan that goes beyond economic and financial gains, if the country is to experience real progress.
He explained that it is important to build the country’s economy through short-term, medium-term, and long-term solutions no matter who is in power.
MP Wickramaratne expressed confidence with IMF intervention adding that opportunities will arise to prepare an economic and financial program for the country.
With the finalization of arrangements with IMF, the MP expressed that taxes have to go up, expenditures have to come down while eliminating wastage and corruption and reducing defence expenditures whether people like it or not.
MP Wickramaratne also called on the government to spend more on local education and health.
He also hoped that current negotiations between the government and the IMF will be fruitful.
