Professor of Medical Education Dr. Indika Karunatilake says a majority of COVID-19 positive cases can be treated at home without any side effects, if medical advice is accurately followed after testing positive.
Dr. Karunatilake speaking at a media briefing today said this is evident from the recent data obtained pertaining to services provided via the 247 and 1904 hotlines for COVID-patients.
Dr. Karunatilake said 60,000 patients were observed via the 247 programme with only 1,200 requiring emergency ambulance treatment, while under the 1904 programme, 30,000 patients were monitored with 800 individuals requiring emergency treatment.
Dr. Karunatilake noted that COVID-patients with inherent illnesses, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and older groups must remain vigilant as the chances of contracting pneumonia are high.
