A home-based care program for COVID-19 patients between the ages of two and 60 with no complications under the supervision of doctors was launched in the Ratnapura District today.
The home care program for those infected with the coronavirus under medical supervision was first started in the Western Province.
The Ministry of Health said the program will be implemented island-wide in the future.
The Health Ministry announced that approximately 1,000 doctors have been deployed to the home care monitoring program while 426 doctors who are awaiting pre-internship appointments have also been trained accordingly.
COVID patients are registered for home-based treatment according to the guidelines and criteria given to the area Medical Officer of Health.
The 1390 24-hour hotline was established for these registered patients.
If the patient is to receive treatment at home, then he or she must express his or her consent.
However, the Ministry said all patients with underlying issues and serious complications will continue to be referred to treatment centres as usual.
