The Department of Meteorology predicts cloudy skies over the Southern half of the island due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
The Met Department said showers or thundershowers can be expected at times over most parts of the island.
It added very heavy showers above 150mm may occur at some places in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces.
Heavy showers about 100mm can occur at some places elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, due to the southward relative motion, the sun will be directly above Kappachchi, Tammannekulama and Uppuveli at around about 12.10pm today.
