COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Department of Meteorology says the depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal is about 180km of east of Trincomalee.
It is likely to move west-Southwest ward and reach east coast of Sri Lanka this morning.
Accordingly, cloudy sky will prevail over most parts of the island and showers or thundershowers will occur at times.
The Met Department said very heavy showers about 150mm are likely at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western and Eastern provinces.
Strong winds about 50-60kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central, Eastern, North-western and Central provinces and strong winds about 40-50kmph can be expected elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
