The Department of Meteorology expects heavy rains to reduce today.
The Met Department however predicted showers to continue in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy showers above 50mm can be expected in some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
It added several spells of showers may occur in the Northern and North-central provinces.
Showers or thundershowers have also been predicted in the Uva and Eastern province during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, strong winds of about 50kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the Central hills.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
The Met Department also noted that due to the southward relative motion, the sun will be directly overhead in Bentota, Pothupitiya and Bodagama at around 12.09pm.
