The Permanent High Court Trial-at-bar today commenced hearing the case filed against former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara over the failure to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks despite receiving intelligence reports prior to the bombings.
Indictments consisting of 855 charges on former IGP Pujith Jayasundara were read out during today’s hearing.
The case is being heard before the Bench comprising Judges Namal Balalle, Adithya Patabendige and Mohamed Irshadeen.
NewsRadio Court correspondent said during today’s hearing former IGP Pujith Jayasundara pled not guilty to the charges filed against him.
The bench decided to take forward the case and the hearing will resume tomorrow.
Former Chief of the State Intelligence Service Nilantha Jayawardena is scheduled to provide evidence tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the case filed against former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando in relation to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks will be taken up at 1pm today.
855 indictments each have been filed by the Attorney General against Pujith Jayasundara and Hemasiri Fernando over their failure to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
