The Health Trade Union Collective will engage in a strike action today in opposition to the lack of favourable responses to their demands including continuously providing the COVID-19 Accident Cover.
President of the Government Medical Laboratory Professionals Association Ravi Kumudesh said several trade unions in the health industry will join the strike action.
He said discussions held with authorities yesterday were futile.
Kumudesh said while hospital services continued without any drawbacks, the circular issued summoning all employees to work has become an obstruction in recalling staff for duties in a systematic manner.
He noted it has also highlighted several privileges and drawbacks with the nature of duties.
Kumudesh said a discussion was held with the Health Secretary pertaining to six main demands.
He added however trade union action will be launched today as planned, as the agreements reached pertaining to the demands are dissatisfactory.
Kumudesh said he believes the Ministry of Health will reach a decision promptly, adding that union action will be called off only if suitable agreements are reached.
