The Health Trade Union Collective says if demands including the continuation of the COVID-19 Accident Allowance are not met, they will withdraw from services on Thursday.
The union claims plans are in place to slash facilities, including the COVID Accident Allowance, by attempting to portray that the pandemic has been contained.
President of the Government Medical Laboratory Professionals Association Ravi Kumudesh said the government is preparing to create a false misconception.
Kumudesh said Secretary to the President Dr. PB Jayasundara issued a circular on the 29th of July summoning all state sector employees to work, questioning why such a circular was issued in haste.
Kumudesh claimed through such circulars, the government is attempting to convey that COVID-19 is not prevalent.
He noted if such a message is falsely given out, it will lead to grave destruction.
He therefore questioned the Ministry of Health and the government if the message has been sent across accurately.
Kumudesh added the government must explain the current pandemic situation based on available data, if a scientific prediction cannot be provided.
He added such an explanation requires a testing process, which has been disregarded.
He noted however COVID-19 cases detected daily through tests are increasing, when patients arrive in hospitals to get tested.
