The Ministry of Health has decided to allocate several additional wards to treat COVID-19 patients, following reports circulating on social media of congestion at the Ragama Teaching Hospital following a large number of cases.
Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday engaged in an observational tour of the Ragama Hospital.
The Minister speaking to media subsequently said, she held talks with the Hospital Director and reached a decision to allocate more wards to treat COVID-patients.
Minister Wanniarchchi said one ward at the Ragama Hospital is used to admit COVID-patients.
The Health Minister said whether to direct the patients to the Intensive Care Unit, the High Dependency Unit or to an intermediary treatment centre, to treat them at the hospital or advise them to remain at home is determined following a medical inspection by the doctor.
Minister Wanniarchchi said videos have been circulated on social media of the relevant ward, claiming that all wards with COVID-19 patients at the Ragama Hospital are the same.
