Health experts say new coronavirus strains could emerge in the country following the detection of the Delta coronavirus variant.
Speaking during a media briefing this afternoon, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said even though various opinions have been expressed on being ready to face new variants, the situation could get out of hand if attention is diverted from the main concern.
Dr. Herath noted that the main threat is if a new variant emerges from within the country adding health services will be able to make arrangements to face other strains originating from foreign nations.
