Sri Lanka’s largest organic granular fertiliser manufacturing factory with modern machinery was declared open today (30) in Pannala.
The Ministry of Agriculture said Hyosung ONB, a granular fertiliser manufacturing company in Korea, will manufacture 100% environmentally friendly organic granular fertiliser at the factory.
The new factory of Hyosung ONB Granular Fertiliser Company was opened this morning (30) under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera, South Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Woonjin Jeong, State Minister of Agriculture Mohan de Silva and Secretary of the Ministry Gunadasa Samarasinghe.
The factory is equipped with high-tech equipment while robotic technology is used for the production of organic granular fertiliser.
The factory will produce 1,800MT of high quality organic granular fertiliser required for Sri Lanka’s plantation industry.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Amaraweera said although the use of organic fertiliser in Sri Lanka is a turning point, farmers’ confidence in such fertiliser has been tarnished due to the failure in previous attempts at its implementation.
However, the Minister said as many farmers prefer using high-quality organic fertiliser, the manufacturing plant will be crucial for Sri Lanka’s agriculture industry.
He also commended Hyosung ONB and Korean government for setting up the factory by investing USD 5 million.
Ambassador Woonjin Jeong expressing his views said the project is suitable to further develop Sri Lanka-Korea ties adding that the long-standing friendship will be further strengthened through this factory and the new technology will be beneficial.
