Parliamentarian Rohini Wijerathna says the government’s attention towards Buddhist monks who worked tirelessly to bring the current administration to power has reduced considerably.

Speaking in Parliament, MP Wijerathna requested the government to reveal the amounts of funds set aside through the insurance scheme introduced by the good governance government to provide relief to the monks who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said certain monks during sermons closer to elections even alluded that the public must vote for the current administration.

MP Wijerathna said although some monks were openly campaigning for the present government, they have been disregarded.

She therefore requested the government to reveal the numbers of monks who passed away after contracting the novel coronavirus, those affected by the pandemic and the allocations set aside to provide compensation and relief to them.
