The opposition claims the government is currently facing difficulties to protect the people and provide relief to the citizens who have been burdened by the COVID-19 crisis.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Parliamentarian Thalatha Athukorala said although previously the government directed infected people to treatment facilities and isolated certain areas, such measures are not taking place at present.
She said the government is unable to provide concessions to the public due to its mishandling of economy.
MP Athukorala noted that the country is running out of hospital beds and oxygen supply.
She said instead of listening to the experts, the government is running its own agenda during a health crisis.
Parliamentarian Thalatha Athukorala noted that some ministers had claimed that they will let God to handle the situation.
MP Athukorala questioned as to why the public should vote in a government, if elected representatives will seek divine intervention to address concerns.
She also noted that the Minister of Health has not been given powers to handle the crisis.
MP Thalatha Athukorala said even the vaccination drive in Ratnapura is not been carried out smoothly, although the Health Minister was elected from the district.
