The Presidents Media Unit says they hope to support green gram cultivation during mid season and also as an additional crop on lands where paddy cannot be grown.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived at this decision after considering information he received on an observational tour of the Department of Agrarian Development.

Accordingly, President Rajapaksa has advised the Agriculture Department to disburse financial aid to farmers, who are unable to grow paddy on bare lands due to the absence of irrigation facilities during the ‘yala season’ so they can purchase seeds to cultivate green gram.

The Head of State has also called for aid to be given to farmers to grow green gram as an additional crop during mid season.
