COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Ministry of Agriculture will commence issuing fertiliser subsidy vouchers to paddy farmers from today.
Last month, President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of Finance decided to provide farmers Rs.20,000 for one hectare of paddy cultivation and Rs.40,000 for two hectares.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal. Accordingly, vouchers are given to farmers to purchase paddy for the Yala season.
Meanwhile, the government last month announced that a total of Rs.11 billion in monetary allowance will be given to farmers to purchase required fertiliser stocks for the Yala season.
The Ministry of Agriculture said the government is planning to grant the subsidy to 550,000 farmers from across the country.
The TSP fertilizer required for the Yala season has already been provided to the farmers free of charge.
