COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The government has decided to grant another Rs. 100,000 for families of missing persons.
The Cabinet of Ministers in March this year decided to grant a one-time payment of Rs. 100,000 to the closest relative of a missing person, based on the certificate of missing issued by the Registrar General.
However, owing to the delays in obtaining the certificate of missing, as well as the amount of Rs. 100,000 not being sufficient, the Cabinet of Ministers has now approved the resolution submitted by the Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to disregard the requirement of obtaining the certificate of missing if the compensation secretariat has confirmed that an individual is missing and to pay an increased amount of Rs. 200,000 as compensation.
