The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to allow private companies to supply Jet A-1 aviation fuel for airplanes as the state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is unable to meet demands.
The matter was conveyed during the weekly Cabinet media briefing held this morning (28) under the patronage of Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardana.
The Minister said Jet A-1 aviation fuel is currently being supplied for aircrafts by the CPC.
However, he noted that in the past year operations at the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery, where the country’s Jet A-1 fuel was met, has been disrupted due to shortage of foreign exchange.
Therefore, the Minister said importing Jet A-1 fuel is also a challenge for the CPC
The Spokesperson said air travel has increased due to the increase in tourist arrivals.
Minister Gunawardana added that the decision to allow private companies to provide fuel was reached to ensure there is a continuous supply of Jet A-1 fuel for cargo and passenger airplanes, to prevent any inconveniences.
