Special attention was directed in Parliament today towards legal proceedings being delayed based on the Attorney General’s advice.
Raising a question expecting oral answers, government MP Chamara Sampath Dasanayake said as a result several cases including child abuse cases are being delayed by several years.
In response Minister of Justice Ali Sabry said the government has taken several steps to minimise the delay in cases.
Minister Sabry said laws are being amended to hear cases daily, and a ‘Pre-Trial’ system will be introduced.
The Justice Minister added several new courts have also been established, while several changes were introduced to the Attorney General’s Department.
