The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has questioned the government over the expenses incurred for Independence Day celebrations at a time there are concerns in meeting daily requirements of food and fuel.
Speaking during a media briefing today Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala said the present administration has become a showcase government.
MP Alawathuwala said the 74th Independence Day was celebrated at great cost with the participation of the Tri-forces.
The Parliamentarian said power plants are facing fuel shortages while the public is also queuing to purchase fuel.
He said the government acted in a similar manner to that of North Korea where military parades are held while citizens starve.
MP Alawathuwala claimed Sri Lanka does not have proper independence even though the Independence Day was celebrated lavishly adding for the first time in history the country is begging for fuel from India and rice from Pakistan and China.
The MP said the present administration has created an era of having to request aid from neighbouring countries.
