Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana says the decision reached to provide chemical fertiliser for tea cultivation clearly shows the failure of the government’s policy on fertiliser.
Speaking during a media briefing today, MP Pathirana said there is suspicion if the government’s decision to ban chemical fertiliser was a conspiracy to destroy the agriculture industry.
The Parliamentarian said the 6.9 million individuals who voted for the present administration, and all citizens alike are reeling from the consequence of government decisions.
The MP added by providing chemical fertiliser for tea cultivation, the government is contradicting itself adding that some chemical fertiliser is absorbed into the soil while some is washed away into water bodies.
On a separate note, the Parliamentarian charged the present administration of failing to provide any relief to small and medium scale entities in the tourism industry who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said a majority of small-scale hotels and inns have collapsed due to the prevailing situation.
MP Pathirana said these entities are facing great difficulties due to the government’s failure to provide concessions for electricity, water, internet, and telephone charges.
He said third parties involved in the industry including transport providers and food suppliers are also facing difficulties.
The Parliamentarian called the government’s move to build jogging-tracks and Formula1 tracks instead of providing relief, shameful.
