COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The government has pledged to provide special allowances to state sector workers in the last quarter of this year.
Speaking to media in Avissawella, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the President also announced during the budget speech that the government will grant special allowances to state sector workers in the latter part of the year.
The State Minister said therefore as soon as the possible, the government will provide a number of concessions to state sector workers.
State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya added that the government has taken all steps to pay the April salaries by the 10th of this month.
He said although countries usually slash salaries of state sector employees while battling a financial crunch, the incumbent government has not taken such a decision.
The State Minister of Finance said instead the President has requested officials to pay the salaries of employees as a priority.
He said due to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, despite various difficulties, the government will pay the salaries of state employees and allowances before the 10th of April.
