Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Nalin Fernando says the government has taken all necessary steps to secure the International Monetary Fund loan facility and is prepared to sign the agreement in May.

The Minister speaking in Ja-Ela during a district committee meeting yesterday (14) attended by the Road Development Authority, Public Health Inspectors, the Land Development Authority, the Irrigation Department and area residents, advised officials to address concerns in the area.

The Minister said the economy will be expanded in coming months while the government allocated Rs.100 billion for the construction sector and Rs.20 billion for the paddy-purchasing process.

Minister Fernando requested government officials to work with dedication to build a more progressive country.

Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga meanwhile said Provincial Councils, Municipal Councils, and the central government must work together adding that the President is committed to ensuring malnutrition is addressed while expectant women are assisted.
