The JVP says the government has undermined teachers to the point where they are unable to go to schools and teach children with dignity.

Speaking during a media briefing former JVP Parliamentarian Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said it is the responsibility of the government to return school education to normalcy by providing fair solutions to issues faced by teachers.

He noted children’s education has been hindered as teaching activities have stopped.

He added teachers have held discussions with the Minister of Education and the Prime Minister, adding however the government has been unable to provide a favourable solution to teachers and principals.

Joining the media briefing JVP Parliamentarian Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said the government must first reveal the truth to the public.

She noted in reality the country is facing a severe economic crisis at present.

MP Amarasuriya said it is regrettable that instead the government is attempting to justify the situation by using the COVID-19 pandemic, and blaming the public.

The MP noted the world is facing a crisis due to COVID-19 adding however it is not the only reason for the present crisis.

She added the present situation is the result of several decisions and the insensitive nature of politicians to spread power, over the past 72 years.
