Leader of the House Minister Susil Premajayantha says the government is considering increasing the travel allowance of all state field officers.
Speaking in Parliament today, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said Grama Niladhari have raised concerns that the travel allowance provided at present is insufficient amidst the prevailing fuel prices.
MP Premadasa questioned if the government acknowledges that the current allowance is insufficient and whether steps will be taken to increase allowances.
Responding, Minister Premajayantha said a maximum of Rs.600 is provided monthly for travel within the Grama Niladhari Division and a maximum of Rs.1,000 monthly for travel outside of the Grama Niladhari Division at present.
The Minister said the government has looked into increasing travel allowances of all field officers in the future adding they are working towards reaching a policy decision pertaining to the matter.
