The Ceylon Teachers Service Union charges that Members of Parliament who are representing the government are criticising teachers engaged in the strike action.
In a statement on Facebook, the Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said the strike will continue until solutions are provided to their concerns including salary anomalies, despite criticism.
He noted various individuals are criticising teachers on social media platforms as if they are groups that never went to school.
He added some individuals also claim that teachers only work six hours and have vacation for three months.
Jayasinghe said however the duties of teachers and principals are not limited to six hours, and they must prepare for the next day.
He stressed during exams, teachers sometimes stay up overnight to mark papers.
He reiterated therefore duties of teachers are not limited to six hours.
