Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa claims the government cannot close the country, despite the serious state of the COVID-19 situation, as it lacks funds to provide concessions to the public.
The Opposition Leader said health officials warned against easing regulations and reopening the country at once.
MP Premadasa noted a dangerous situation has arisen as a result of health advice being disregarded.
MP Premadasa said if the government brought down COVID-19 vaccines, instead of chasing behind a local COVID-19 cure, citizens would have been vaccinated by now, and COVID-related fatalities could have been reduced.
The Opposition Leader claimed the government has no ethical right to say those succumbing to the virus and testing positive are persons who did not obtain the vaccine, as it was the government that delayed bringing down vaccines.
He added therefore the government is responsible for the fatalities.
