Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian SM Marikkar says the government has failed to provide solutions to the lack of beds in order to treat COVID-19 patients at a time that patients are once again rising significantly.
Expressing his views in Parliament today, the MP said Minister Namal Rajapaksa spoke of constructing 10,000 beds within 10 days at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, adding it was simply small talk.
The MP said people with critical symptoms were seen sleeping in the garden within the hospital premises, while COVID-patients were sleeping in corridors at the Ragama Teaching Hospital.
The MP noted that two children were being treated on a single bed at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital. He stressed the government has failed to provide acceptable solutions.
SJB MP Marikkar added yesterday’s 82 deaths in comparison to the population in Sri Lanka, is much worse than the situation in India.
He said oxygen is becoming scarce while private hospital beds are also filling up.
