COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The government says it is focused on bringing in foreign investors whose projects help mitigate effects of climate change.
The President’s Media Division said the plan of the government is to bring in foreign investors to achieve the three goals of reaching a target of 70 percent renewable energy, achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and finding global carbon markets for carbon emission allowances.
A discussion in this regard was held at the Presidential Secretariat under the chairmanship of Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Ruwan Wijewardene, and Presidential Adviser on International Climate Change Eric Solheim.
The PMD said Presidential Adviser Solheim shared his international knowledge on future energy sources such as concessional climate finance, carbon credits, carbon markets, renewable energy and future energy sources such as hydrogen with the officials attended the discussion.
Commenting on renewable energy, Eric Solheim had pointed out that countries like India and China have benefited from such projects, and Sri Lanka can also achieve similar success.
Presidential Adviser Solheim also expressed confidence that President Ranil Wickremesinghe will solve all issues that have affected the country.
Expressing his views, Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Ruwan Wijewardene said the renewable energy industry is a rapidly growing sector and there are a large number of such investors in Europe, America, Canada and other countries.
Ruwan Wijewardene emphasized the importance of attracting such investors and investment while introducing policies to cater the demand.
