Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the present government’s failure to heed the demands of farmers is unfortunate.
MP Premadasa said although farmers seek to fulfill their fertiliser needs, the government repeatedly evades responsibility by avoiding farmers’ needs.
Speaking in Anuradhapura the Opposition Leader said farmers rights have been violated due to the actions of the government adding that their only request is fertiliser, weedicides and pesticides for crops and most importantly a stable price for crops.
However MP Premadasa accused the government of turning a blind eye to their woes. Sajith Premadasa condemning the decision by the government to use organic fertiliser said decisions must be reached in a timely and scientific manner.
He claimed the arbitrary decision by the government to switch to organic fertiliser is unacceptable.
Premadasa called on the government to listen to farmers.
He also stated that research has indicated that a balance of fertiliser and organic fertiliser produces better crops.
