Former Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the National Movement for Social Justice Karu Jayasuriya says the government has failed to resolve the country’s issues despite gaining a two-thirds majority in Parliament and having unlimited power vested through the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
Speaking to media the former Speaker said the reason for the current shortage of essential commodities and the skyrocketing prices is the poor management of the government.
He said the fertiliser crisis keeps worsening adding no mention of the compensation process due to loss of crops have been cited in the 2022 Budget.
Jayasuriya questioned what steps will be taken by the government to rectify this as the government assured the farming community that they will be compensated.
