Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara Jayamaha says while the coronavirus situation has deteriorated at an alarming rate, the government has failed to reveal the ground reality to the public.

Speaking to media in Kandy, MP Jayamaha said the government is continuously promoting misinformation and is deceiving the public. He said deaths and infections have increased steeply.

MP Jayamaha said the Minister of Health has been claiming the cases that are being detected at present are also linked to the New Year cluster and is attempting to portray that Sri Lanka is not experiencing community transmissions.

He said it is evident cases are being identified in society.

MP Nalin Bandara added issues cannot be resolved without dealing with the truth.

He said the government is also boastful of the vaccination drive with some ministers claiming Sri Lanka is among the leading nations pertaining to vaccinations.

MP Jayamaha said among 195 countries, Sri Lanka is ranked 91st when considered the number of people who are fully vaccinated which stands at 12.3 percent.

He said 49.4 percent have received at least one dose of a vaccine thus far which ranks Sri Lanka at 65th place.
