The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims the government has failed to announce solutions to the country’s economic crisis thus far.
Speaking during a media briefing Parliamentarian Harsha de Silva said prices of goods are increasing and the income is dropping at an unbearable rate at present.
He further claimed there is a gas shortage, adding that people are unable to purchase blue gas cylinders by giving a yellow gas cylinder.
MP de Silva added there is a serious issue regarding the importation of fuel, while the current stocks will only last a few weeks.
The MP noted exports have taken a blow due to restrictions on imports, adding several factories have closed.
MP de Silva said the government repeatedly claims it has a solution to the economic crisis and has faced worse situations, adding however it has not revealed solutions.
MP Harsha de Silva further said foreign reserves have dropped to 2.8 billion US dollars by the 31st of July, which includes around 380 million dollars in gold.
He noted apart from gold, foreign reserves have depleted to less than 2.35 billion US dollars, the lowest in the country’s history.
The MP claimed the current foreign reserves are only sufficient for 1.6 months.
