Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga says the government has directed attention towards extending the visas of Ukrainian tourists who are unable to travel to their country due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The Tourism Minister said facts will be presented in this regard when the Cabinet of Ministers convene tomorrow.
He noted the Foreign Ministry is also holding discussions with the Department of Immigration and Emigration at present.
Minister Ranatunga said visas are issued for tourists for a minimum period of one month adding further steps will be taken after taking into consideration the expiration date of visas for Ukrainians who are currently in the country.
According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority nearly 4,000 Ukrainian nationals are in Sri Lanka at present while nearly 11,500 Russian nationals are also in the country.
