The government has condemned the incident in which eggs were thrown at a conference organized by the National People’s Power in Kalagedihena.
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana said Sri Lanka is a democratic country with freedom of speech and expression.
He said the incident is regretful adding the government has informed relevant authorities to take legal action against the incident.
Minister Pathirana said Minister Prasanna Ranatunga strongly condemned the incident during the Cabinet of Ministers meeting held yesterday and requested the Cabinet to take legal action in this regard.
He stressed the government had no involvement in the incident adding there are suspicions over whether a faction is attempting to inconvenience the government through such incidents.
He added a stringent investigation will be conducted into the incident.
