COLOMBO (NewsRadio); State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has reiterated that the government will take steps to bring down country’s inflation to a single digit figure by December.

Inflation has been easing considerably since the incumbent government took a number of decisions in the past few months.

At one point, food inflation in Sri Lanka was at 95 percent and it has come down to 60 percent, while the average inflation rate which was at 70 percent, has come down to less than 50 percent.

Speaking to media, State Minister Siyambalapitiya said although the government would like to provide relief to the public as soon as possible, certain decisions have to be taken cautiously, since Sri Lanka was declared bankrupt last year.

He said when the debt repayment programme is agreed, everyone will have a better understanding about the direction the country is heading.
