COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Ministry of Agriculture says the government has allocated Rs.56 Billion to provide facilities and relief to farmers this year.
Subject Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the government has allocated the funds to initiate programmes that will reduce the production cost of farmers.
The government has allocated the funds considering the requests made by farmers.
Some farmers have claimed that farming has become unsustainable due to the reduction in the yield and the increase in production cost.
The government has accordingly initiated several programmes in recent months including the distribution of fertiliser and diesel free of charge.
