Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera says a new government was formed on the 22nd of November 2019, that made way to abolish the Cabinet sub-committee, that established the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division in 2015.

The Minister speaking in Parliament yesterday said complaints cannot be lodged with the FCID as the sub-committee was abolished.

Therefore he noted the FCID was abolished, only for those cases to be continued by the Criminal Investigation Department, as approved by the Cabinet.

Minister Weerasekera noted of 457 complaints lodged at the FCID, 113 have been directed to the Attorney General, while 49 cases are pending as no misdeed has been detected.

The Minister also claimed 103 cases have been directed to various other institutions, while 17 cases have been filed with the Supreme Court, two cases with a Magistrates Court and 15 cases are being heard at present.

The Minister added three individuals have been found guilty of crimes, while one other case is pending.

He noted that further investigations are being conducted by the FCID on 139 other cases.
